Our Story: Twenty-three years ago, Ryan and Paul Elswick set out to bring high-speed internet to our rural community. After being turned down by every provider, they decided to take matters into our own hands. They leveraged nearly everything they owned to fund a business they believed in. That determination and vision paid off.
Our Achievements: Over fifteen years and $100M in grants, we connected thousands of homes and businesses across five counties in two states, right in the heart of Appalachia. Our efforts have been recognized as one of the most successful economic development initiatives in Southwest Virginia’s history.
Our Approach: Success was not easy. It demanded perseverance, hard work, and a willingness to learn. While grants were crucial, we understood that a sustainable business model was equally important. Through trial and error, we developed a self-sustaining model that allows networks to thrive on their own revenue.

Our Services: We are here to help you prepare for BEAD by clearing hurdles that others might find unfamiliar. We start with an effective business plan, followed by securing right-of-way, forming partnerships, choosing a network type, and designing the network itself. Once funding is procured, we ensure the network is built efficiently with local talent. Additionally, our clients can choose to have us operate the network. Our team of networking professionals is experienced in managing the day-to-day operations of regional networks, which are vital to the economy.
Our Vision: In short, we have reinvented the economy of regions before, and we’d like to help you reinvent yours. Providing broadband to homes is only the first step in a series of changes that can transform a community. The FiberWise team is leveraging its decades of unique experience to once again fund, design, build, and operate a fiber optic network.
